Fast and the Furious 5 to premier at Atrium Cinemas

Not just in Hollywood but people from all over the world like watching things explode, fast car chases, and The Rock stare down other dudes with no shades of homoeroticism whatsoever. None. The Fast and the Furious 5 has conquered the weekend box-office worldwide, raking in 83.6 million dollars in America, along with 81.4 million overseas – the biggest weekend opening in April, a title that was previously held by Fast & Furious two years prior. The movie is set to release in Pakistan with its first premier on May 5, 2011 at Atrium 3D Cinemas.

And along with big box office receipts comes statements from executives that make you roll your eyes into the back of your head and pray for fiery death to be rained from the skies. Specifically, from Universal’s head of distribution.

This was all about the right decisions we made, from the concept to the task. How this was made, that it’s not just a car-racing movie, but making it into an action-heist movie. … And the marketing that said, ‘This is not the same. This is new. You’re going to love this, and it’s going to open up a whole new world.’

That’s a pretty fine way to elucidate that people of all ages want to see hot girls and things exploding. Cue the American flag. If you haven’t seen it, below is The Onion’s exclusive interview with the screenwriter.

The box-office is up 52% from last year, based off of the thunderous performance of Paul Walker’s eyes.
