7.4-quake jolts Pakistan


Various parts of country including Karachi and Quetta were jolted by earthquake of mammoth 7.4 magnitude on Richter Scale after midnight towards Wednesday morning. According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the quake was found to be in Balochistan area of Kharan.

Earlier Met Office said that Karachi's most powerful explosion in November last year outside Crime Investigation Department (CID) building, near PIDC has activated the seismic activity in the region.

According to US Geological survey, the magnitude of the yesterdays earthquake was 7.4 on Richter Scale, saying the epicenter is 55 kilometers to the west of Dalbadin in Balochistan. The areas which felt severe jolts included Karachi, Bahawalpur, Thatta, Sukkar, Shikarpur, Badin, Hyderabad, Quetta, Naseerabad, Kharan, Lahore, Sargodha and Dera Ghazi Khan.
